Your reception area is the first thing every client, partner, and potential employee sees. Here is how to get it right.
Why reception furniture matters
In Pakistani business culture, the physical environment communicates a great deal about a company's values, stability, and professionalism. A well-designed reception area instantly builds confidence. A poorly furnished one raises doubts before a single word is exchanged.

Types of reception counters
Reception counters come in several configurations:
- Straight counter — simplest and most space-efficient. Works for small to medium reception areas.
- L-shaped counter — provides more workspace and creates a more enclosed, secure feeling for the receptionist.
- Curved counter — visually striking and welcoming. Requires more space but makes a strong impression.
- Standing-height counter — modern and dynamic. Better for high-traffic environments.
Choosing the right size
The most common mistake is buying a counter that is too small for the space. A tiny counter in a large lobby looks insecure and out of place.
As a general rule: the reception counter should span at least 40% of the wall it sits against. In a 6m wide lobby, that means a counter at least 2.4m long.

What to put around the reception desk
- Visitor seating — 2–4 chairs, comfortable but not so comfortable people fall asleep

- Magazine rack or coffee table — for waiting areas
