Lumbar support

Look for adjustable lumbar support to reduce lower back strain during long work hours. A chair with a built-in curve but no adjustment still helps, but if your team varies in height, adjustable lumbar support — both height and depth — makes a much bigger difference across different body types.

Seat height and depth adjustability

Your feet should rest flat on the floor with knees at roughly 90 degrees. A pneumatic height adjustment lever is now standard — avoid fixed-height chairs for any desk job. Seat depth matters too: taller staff need a deeper seat pan so the backrest doesn't dig into the back of their thighs.

Armrests

Adjustable armrests — height, and ideally width — let each person set the chair to their own desk height and shoulder width. Fixed armrests are cheaper but can force awkward shoulder positions for anyone outside average height.

Base and casters

A 5-star nylon base is more stable than a 4-star base, especially on hard flooring. For offices with tile or marble floors, choose casters rated for hard surfaces — standard carpet casters roll too easily and feel unstable on tile.

Material and breathability

• Mesh back — breathable, ideal for Karachi's heat and humidity, best for staff who sit long hours
• Fabric upholstery — a more cushioned feel, warmer, and needs more regular cleaning
• PU leather — easiest to wipe clean and looks premium, but retains heat

Weight capacity and build quality

Check the manufacturer's weight rating, not just the price tag — a chair rated for 100kg used by someone heavier will wear out, or fail, years before it should. Look for a steel or reinforced base rather than plastic on any chair meant for daily 8-hour use.
